Where are you from and what brought you to OSU?
I was born and raised in central New Jersey and decided to make the trip out to OSU to be able to study with Dr. Broffitt Kunzer!

When and why did you start playing the flute?
I began playing flute in 5th grade with the school band. I chose to play flute because I wanted to be just like my best friend who had played flute during her elementary experience.

What are some of your hobbies and interests?
I enjoy going on random adventures, cooking, meditating, and trying new things (especially food)

Who are your favorite composers? What are some of your favorite recordings?
Franz Liszt's recording of Reminiscences de Norma by Bellini is one of my favorite recordings to listen to. I also enjoy Pahud's recording of the Prokofiev Sonata.

Who are your music mentors and what have you learned from them?
I have had the pleasure of having multiple music mentors in my career. My music teachers in elementary, middle, and high school shaped my ensemble playing and provided good examples of great teaching in the public school system. My private lesson teachers during that time encouraged me to continue my music career and influenced my musicianship at an early age. Dr. Broffitt Kunzer has been a great mentor in my life. She has shaped my musicianship at a more advanced level and molded me into a professional member of the music society.

Where are your favorite places to eat?
Aspen Coffee (to fuel the day), Da Vinci's Italian Restaurant, and Thai Cafe are all great places in Stillwater!

What is the most valuable lesson that music has taught you?
Music has taught me how important discipline, professionalism, and networking can not only help build your music career but also shape your personality and maturity.

What stands out as your favorite musical memory?
My musical career has been full of wonderful memories but one that has stood out is support and connection I felt with the entire CMB when the 2015 Homecoming tragedy shook Stillwater. All three hundred and fifty members leaned on each other for emotional support and leadership while having to continue to push through the game day. It was an experience that has shaped my views of how a connection through music can strengthen a community.

What are your favorite things about the Flute Studio and the School of Visual + Performing Arts?
The balance of competition, community, and support in the department and studio has made my time at OSU a great one. Being surrounded by talented musicians has made an amazing network of colleagues and life long friends.

What is your guilty pleasure?
I really enjoy taking long walks through Target and watching house makeover shows.

Do you have any tips or advice for younger flutists?
Posture is just as important as every other aspect of flute playing. It can make or break your practice and influences the consistency your body performs at.

What are five fun facts about you?
1. I am currently student teaching at Edmond Memorial School district
2. I had Raisin Canes for the first time last year and I haven't loved chicken this much before
3. No matter how busy I am, I always have time to stop and pet a dog
4. I get cold really easily (yes, I am from New Jersey)
5. Tea makes my heart happy
